Approved member agencies received approximately $430,000 dollars raised in the 2010 United Way Community Campaign. Summaries of the funded grants are included below.
Education
- American Red Cross, $45,087 - scholarships for courses in babysitting; water safety and masters of disaster training. Partner: GISD
- Teen Health Center, $50,000 - Real Parenting Project. Parters include: GISD Teen Parent, Nia Cultural Center, Century 21 Program, Alcohol Drug Abuse Women’s Center
Income
- Catholic Charities of Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, $25,000 - Food delivery and financial assistance. Partners include St. Vincent DePaul, Mainland Children’s Partnership
- Salvation Army Galveston, $40,000 - Homeless Network & Gulf Coast Continuum of Care. Partners include: Gulf Coast Center, Veteran’s Administration, Texas Assistance to Needy Families, St. Vincent’s House, The Children’s Center.
- Sunshine Center, $40,000 - Family Outreach & Support Program. Partners include: Catholic Charities, Gulf Coast Legal Aid, American Red Cross, Gulf Coast Center
Health
- AIDS Coalition of Coastal Texas, $30,000 - helping HIV patients access health care; reduce HIV infection through:HIV testing, risk-reduction counseling, community education, outpatient medical case management, food bank, substance abuse counseling, emergency financial assistance, assistance with health insurance premiums, transportation for medical appointments and pharmaceutical assistance. Partners include: Galveston County Health District, UTMB, Gulf Coast Center, St. Vincent’s House
- Gulf Coast Big Brothers & Big Sisters, $40,000 - Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Program. Partners include: Gleanings From The Harvest, St. Vincent’s House, GISD
- Children’s Advocacy Center of Galveston County, $25,000 - Forensic Interview Program. Partners include: 18 local law enforcement agencies, UTMB, Child Protective Services
- The Children’s Center, $15,000 - Personal hygiene and essential household item boxes. Partners include: Gleanings From The Harvest
- Libbie’s Place, $25,000 - Care Solution for Seniors. Partners include: Jesse Tree
- St. Vincent’s House, $30,000 - food resources and healthy eating education for food insecure. Partners include: Gleanings From The Harvest/Galveston County Food Bank
- Family Service Center, $50,000 - Helping Hands Initiative. Partners include: Teen Health Clinic
